 [Return to School Environment] Gentle Dragon consists of one large room divided into distinct activity areas. Children's belongings are placed in individual cubbies. Lunch, snack, art projects, and playdough are done on the red table. There is a separate table for coloring and writing that contains self-service art supplies. There is also a work bench in this area which can be used when the tools are brought out and supervision is available. The preschool rug is the quiet area. It is used for meeting, lego play, games, puzzles and reading books. It is considered a place to come to if the other areas are too noisy for a particular time. The block, dress-up, housekeeping, loft and climber areas are all adjacent to each other. Much active and imaginative play takes place in these areas. It is important for children to have the freedom to play as they want to here, subject to safety limits. The climbing structure is "closed" during lunch. Just outside the building, to the left of the front door, is the outdoor play area. The area contains a flower garden, picnic tables for summer lunches and a climbing structure.
